About Me

When a passion becomes a pursuit

I love to read and I love the English language. Any bio for an editor must begin with that because if you don’t love reading, and don’t understand the basic connection between story, love of language, and communication, you can’t do this job.  My education, training, and work experience are varied, giving me a broad range of expertise to offer clients.

First, my education. I have degrees in political science, international studies, and history. These give me broad academic knowledge, and while that isn’t necessary for all editing, it certainly helps with some editing, e.g. textbooks.

Some early work experience includes creating, training, and use of a style guide, as well as technical writing. As the technical writing is not across all spectrums, rest assured I will not accept a project if it is outside my wheelhouse or if I do not feel confident in the specific topic.

I bring over ten years of experience editing books, and I have worked both with first-time and experienced authors, in fiction and nonfiction. I’ve also worked with high school and college students on critical thinking, reading comprehension, research and writing skills, editing essays and thesis papers, and copyediting dissertations. In addition, I have worked with screenwriters, brushing up their scripts and screenplays, offering ideas, and editing before they pitch. Finally, I have written a trivia page, a tourist page for travelers, and other odds and ends.

In addition to dozens of college papers I’ve written through the years, I have published stories in two anthologies, and I have two novels in progress. I also run a blog on various topics and a Facebook page on cinema.

There is little I cannot offer based on this broad swath of education, experience, and knowledge. And if I don’t know it, or have any reason to believe I am not the person for you, I will not hesitate to say so.
